Boko Haram survivors face hunger in Nigerian Towns

Nigeria’s army started cleaning areas of the country’s northeast from Boko Haram. 1.5 million people were displaced during the process and have started to return home. Despite the seemingly good news, thousands of these people face sever food shortages along with a slow reconstruction process.

Trade has resumed between some towns, but it is only a reminder of the hunger that the people are starting to endure. The smell of rotting corpses still lingers months after the fighting came to an end.

Boko Haram is an Islamist militant group. They killed thousands in northeastern Nigeria. Their attacks took over most of the Borno state.

The Nigerian army started to push back when the militant group was about 100 kilometers away from Adamawa’s state capital.

Despite the return of the displaced people, they are lacking clinics, banks, and schools. The scarcity of these facilities is especially seen in the northern areas of the country.
