150 street artists from 30 different countries used the old
Tunisian village, Erriadh, as their canvas. They transformed the village into
an open-air street art museum.
Erriadh is a small village in Tunisia on the Island of
Djerba. It’s location is off an old tourist path.
The founder of the French Galerie Itinerrance, Mehdi Ben
Cheikh, organized the project under the name Djerbahood. He secured legal authorization
from the government and private land wonders before beginning the project. The
project was aimed to enrich the culture and bring out its beauty through art.
Different religions have lived in peace in Erriadh for
around 2,000 years. “I’m not here to aggravate anyone, but to consolidate this
aspect, which I find beautiful, and together with the natural beauty of the
village, provides the artists with a unique canvas.” Ben Cheikh told New York
Times.
The 150 street artists participated in the massive street
art exhibition by displaying their street art pieces on the walls of the
village.
