65-year-old German Woman Expecting Quadruplets

A 65-year-old German Woman, Annegret Raunigk is the mother of 13 children. She is pregnant once again with quadruplets.

Her due date is in the summer. Ruanigk says she is “looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

She is currently in heir 5th month of pregnancy. Annegret Raunigk decided to get pregnant again after her daughter Lelia, aged 9, said she would like a baby sister or brother.

The German woman said she found it ‘quite a strain battling against the clichés” when it comes to what is and is not acceptable for a woman of her age. Since science enables her to get pregnant, than people should have the freedom to make their own choices.

Raunigk is a mother of 13 and a grandmother to seven. Her current pregnancy is due to artificial insemination – it is a practice that is forbidden in Germany.

All four of the fertilized eggs developed into embryos – doctors were not expecting this to happen. The chance of quadruplets in general is one in 13 million.

At age 55, the woman was Germany’s oldest mother, when she gave birth to her daughter Lelia. The oldest of her children is currently 43 years old.
