Philadelphia train derails, killing at least 5 and injuring many

An Amtrak train in Philadelphia carrying 243 people derailed on Tuesday. The accident killed at least 5 people and injured dozens more.

The train was on rout from New York to Washington and derailed around 9:30 pm. 49 people were taken to nearby hospitals – 6 of which were in critical conditions.

The cause of the crash is not known.

Firefighters and rescue workers went from car to car helping passengers off the train as the toll of injured and deceased increased.

Philadelphia’s mayor, Michael Nutter, said, “It is an absolute disastrous mess, I have never seen anything like this in my life.”
